Learning Curve Education is delighted to announce the launch of Keeping Myself e-Safe, a new resource for schools which helps young people understand how to stay safe when using the internet and other digital technologies.  This innovative and engaging resource contains animated films which can be delivered online or from DVD.

These films focus on young people who find themselves in difficult or compromising situations whilst using the internet or other digital technologies, and portray the events which have led to them getting into trouble.  The films address the following e-safety topics:

·         Internet safety

·         Online grooming

·         Social networking

·         Video and mobile technologies

·         Intellectual copyright

·         Cyberbullying

·         Internet addiction

·         Computer gaming

·         Identity theft and online fraud

·         Instant messaging and e-mail

·         Peer-to-peer file sharing

·         Phishing, adware and malware

Keeping Myself e-Safe is accompanied by a comprehensive support pack which helps teachers to stay up-to-date with current technologies and terminologies, as well as highlighting good practice and advice.  The pack also includes information, activities and questions designed to support young people by raising awareness and offering opportunities for group discussion.

Mark Cunningham, a Director of Learning Curve Education, highlights the recent Byron Review which sets out the key role for schools in equipping and empowering children and their parents to stay safe online.  According to Mark, ‘Many schools see the solution to e-safety as locking down ICT in order to protect young people.  This strategy will fail in the long term, because it does nothing to educate the child about the dangers of the internet and other digital technologies.  Furthermore it does not provide a solution for young people accessing the internet away from the school, or when using mobile devices.

At Learning Curve we believe that the key to e-safety is in educating young people about the real dangers which face them when using the internet.’

Keeping Myself e-Safe is available for two different age groups: one to support primary schools (http://www.learningcurve.info/ICT-&-e-Safety/Keeping-Myself-e-Safe-Primary.html); and one to support secondary schools (http://www.learningcurve.info/ICT-&-e-Safety/KMeSafe.html).  Keeping Myself e-Safe is released on Friday 6th March 2009.
