The CD-ROM covers a wide range of tenses and vocabulary including town amenities, jobs, places of work and related lexis, activities and other miscellaneous vocabulary in its various tasks, thereby presenting topics covered in all 3 key stages of the National Curriculum. Whilst it does not provide descriptors for National Curriculum levels the CD-ROM does allow for differentiation through its translation facility and can be used either by individuals, groups or as a whole-class tool. The beauty of this game is that it can be saved and reloaded and pupils’ statistics printed to gauge individual progress; it may also be used to address particular difficulties such as interviewing partners, therefore incorporated into lessons as an integral part of structured learning. Red Herring is an absolutely fabulous resource. From the onset students are excited by the vibrant, energetic music, absorbed in the opening murder scenes and diligently working through the clues so as to catch the murderer. The game incites their interest and concentration and, as a result, solves potential classroom management issues! An absolute gem. (P.S. In my haste to determine who killed Max before bed-time I accused the wrong person! Obviously detective work isn’t my true vocation…) Click here to read the full Schoolzone Red Herring review |
